Advertising Rules Every Cosmetic Surgery Practice Should Know in Ontario and the U.S.
Testimonials, before and after photos, superlatives and reviews: what the CPSO and the FTC actually require of practices and their agencies.
The American Society of Plastic Surgeons' latest report shows a stable market, a clear set of leading procedures, and a growing weight-loss patient segment. Here is how to read it as a marketer.
Update: ASPS released its 2025 report on September 1, 2026. Read our breakdown of what the 2025 statistics mean for your practice.
Each year the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) publishes its procedural statistics, the most widely cited snapshot of aesthetic demand in the United States. The 2024 report, released in June 2025, is worth reading closely, not for the headline numbers alone but for what they imply about where patients will come from next.1
ASPS reported nearly 1.6 million cosmetic surgical procedures in 2024, a 1% increase over the prior year, alongside more than 28.5 million minimally invasive treatments, up 1.5%.1
That is steady demand, not explosive growth. For an individual practice, it means new surgical volume will come mostly from winning a larger share of an existing market, not from the market expanding around you. Positioning and patient experience matter more in a flat market than in a booming one.
| Procedure | 2024 procedures |
|---|---|
| Liposuction | 349,728 |
| Breast augmentation | 306,196 |
| Tummy tuck | 171,064 |
| Breast lift | 153,616 |
| Eyelid surgery | 120,755 |

If your website and advertising do not have dedicated, well-structured content for each procedure you offer from this list, you are likely missing the patients who search for them by name.
The report also highlighted patients using GLP-1 weight-loss medications. According to ASPS, 20% of GLP-1 patients under the care of ASPS member surgeons have already had plastic surgery, 39% are considering a surgical procedure, and 41% are considering a nonsurgical one.1

These patients often arrive with specific concerns about skin laxity and body contouring after significant weight loss. Educational content that addresses their situation directly, without overpromising, is one of the clearest opportunities in the report.
Neuromodulator injections alone accounted for more than 9.8 million treatments in 2024, and hyaluronic acid fillers for more than 5.3 million.1 Many surgical patients start as injectable patients. A practice that stays in thoughtful contact with its nonsurgical patients, and reactivates past inquiries, is sitting on a pipeline that costs nothing in ad spend to reach.
Note: ASPS data reflects the U.S. market. Canadian practices should treat it as directional rather than a direct measure of local demand.
